July 20. After wrapping up the Copa America tournament and ultimately securing the event’s MVP award, James Rodriguez (J Rodriquez) is still enjoying his vacation before returning to Sao Paulo. However, all signs point towards J Rodriquez’s time at Sao Paulo coming to an end.
According to the Colombian section of Marca, Sao Paulo’s president, Julio Casares, recently gave an interview detailing the situation with J Rodriquez.
“Why should we make concessions to him? We have a contract in place. The player joined the team, yet he claims he can’t play. Why should we pay him this sum? If another club can offer a transfer deal that covers what we owe, then perhaps we can discuss it.”
“We won’t spend any more money on him. I can use that money on another player, which might resolve this pending issue. Everything is subject to negotiation. For now, there is only one premise: he is a Sao Paulo player, and he needs to prove himself as a good employee again. Then we will reassess the situation,” he added.
The president of Sao Paulo is very clear in his stance, despite J Rodriquez’s outstanding performance with Colombia during the Copa America, “no player is above Sao Paulo, and no one is more important than the club itself.”
