On July 31, in the final match of Group Stage for Men’s Football at the Paris Olympics, Spain lost 1-2 to Egypt and advanced as the second-placed team. They will face Japan in the quarterfinals.
In a post-match interview with the media, Spanish head coach Santi Denia stated: “We do need to make changes and should improve our game tempo going forward. As for this loss, I take primary responsibility. If there is criticism to be had, direct it solely at me. In the next match, we will give it our all, and I believe you will see a difference.”
Regarding the quarterfinals against Japan, Denia said: “I have full confidence in my players and will work hard to get them back on track, ensuring they perform better. Based on my experience, setbacks are inevitable in competitions like the Olympics, and encountering challenges early on in the group stage is actually ideal.”
