On the evening of July 30, Bayern Munich’s new signing Palhinha attended the newcomers’ press conference.
Palhinha said, “My first impression of Bayern is very good, and I’m really enjoying it. I have already toured the club’s facilities and met some teammates. I am looking forward to taking the field with everyone in a Bayern jersey. I didn’t expect Bayern to come after me again. After the failed transfer last year, my family and I were quite disappointed. It was hard to accept. I knew that if I wanted another chance to play for Bayern, I had to keep doing what I’ve been doing throughout my career. I’m proud to have this opportunity now. This is an important moment for me, and I’m really enjoying these first few days here.”
“I want to thank Tuchel. Even when the transfer fell through last year, I had the chance to thank him again. I spoke with Kompany as well, and having two excellent coaches vouch for me makes me very proud.”
When asked about whether he followed Bayern and the players in his position after last summer, Palhinha said, “When we talk about players like Kimmich, Goretzka, and Laimer, each one can play the No. 6 role, and being on the same team as them makes me very proud. I remember playing against Kimmich when I was 19, and it was clear he was an absolute top-level player, and now I’m playing alongside him. There are many top players in the squad. I’m really looking forward to it.”
Regarding his style and his reputation for tackles, Palhinha said, “I hope Bundesliga referees don’t blow the whistle too easily for fouls. I never want to hurt anyone, I just want to win back the ball. English football places great emphasis on physicality, and so does the Bundesliga. The game should flow without interruptions. I always try to successfully get out of tackles. Those who know me know that I won’t play unfairly.”
