According to Mexican media “Universal Soccer,” Ochoa is set to return to the Mexico national team, but this time as an assistant coach.
The report states that while there are still many unknowns about new Mexico coach Aguirre’s third stint, one thing is certain: To help get the national team back on track, Aguirre will seek assistance from several veterans of the national team, one of whom is Ochoa.
Ochoa, who officially turned 39 on the 13th of this month, became a free agent after terminating his contract with Salernitana. There are rumors that Spanish club Espanyol and MLS team San Diego FC could be potential destinations for him.
Ochoa made his debut for the Mexico national team in December 2005, going on to make 151 appearances for the national side and keeping 65 clean sheets, helping Mexico win the Gold Cup five times.
