On July 16, according to British media outlet The Sun, former World Cup champion Dunga and his wife were involved in a terrifying car accident today. Their vehicle was overturned on the road, and both were rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, neither of them sustained serious injuries.
The 60-year-old former Brazilian midfielder led Brazil to win the World Cup in 1994. During his playing career, he also won the Copa America twice and earned an Olympic silver medal. Between 2006 and 2010, Dunga served as the national team’s head coach twice, and he took up the position again in 2014.
Dunga’s son recently issued a statement, “We would like to thank everyone who has shown concern and support for our family, the truck driver who immediately provided first aid assistance, and the Angelina Caron Hospital where we received excellent care from their team.”
The police investigated the accident and confirmed that Dunga was not driving under the influence at the time of the incident. It is believed that the accident might have been caused by slippery road conditions following heavy rain.
