According to Spain’s AS newspaper, Spanish entrepreneur Jordi Temes has announced that he will run in the next FC Barcelona presidential election, and he is confident of victory. “The club is in a worse state now than when Laporta first arrived,” he said.
For Laporta, it can be said that he is facing crises both internally and externally. On one hand, the club is heavily indebted; on the other hand, several opposition groups have emerged. Now, entrepreneur Jordi Temes has publicly stated that he will run for the presidency of FC Barcelona.
Temes, 51 years old, is the 33,488th member of FC Barcelona, born in the small town of Sant Feliu de Guíxols on the Costa Brava, coincidentally also Juan Laporta’s summer vacation spot. As an entrepreneur, he is the founder of Bizum, having sold his company to American investment funds, which has given him the resources and time to pursue his goal of becoming the president of FC Barcelona.
In an interview, Temes criticized Laporta’s management: “Barcelona’s debt has increased, and its assets have decreased. Therefore, from an economic perspective, the club is now in a worse state than when Laporta first arrived. We don’t even have a stadium… By the way, there are many powerful Catalan companies capable of building the Camp Nou. We don’t have top talent, as the best talents have fled from Barcelona, I hope they queue up to work for Barcelona.” He complained.
Temes believes that a club like Barcelona requires not only good management in sports but also good management economically, or else the club will “head towards death.” However, he acknowledges that managing a club like Barcelona is not easy, as it requires winning titles, making money, and continuing to inspire the passion of the fans.
Temes is convinced that Laporta will ultimately serve out his term, though he believes there are grounds for a vote of no confidence. However, Temes thinks that doing so now would not be appropriate due to the club’s poor state. “If I were to say that a vote of no confidence should be held now, I would be very selfish. Why? Because the club lacks a stadium, resulting in a loss of €200 million in revenue. To paralyze the club now… we are trying to build a competitive team, but we haven’t achieved that yet. Let’s see how this year goes. We don’t have money, we don’t have top talent, as they’ve all left. We cannot paralyze the club now, and there isn’t much time until the elections.”
