On July 19, the Danish Football Association officially announced that Kasper Hjulmand will no longer serve as head coach of the Danish men’s national team.
The Danish Football Association stated that following their round of 16 finish at the European Championship, Denmark’s head coach Kasper Hjulmand and national team football director Peter Møller conducted a comprehensive analysis of the current state of the national team and held several discussions about the future.
After much discussion, Hjulmand concluded that the team now needs fresh energy. As a result, both parties agreed that a change in the head coaching position is necessary to bring in a new head coach for the team.
Hjulmand said, “I feel very honored to have had the opportunity to coach the national team for four years. Over the past four years, I have given everything to help the team succeed. Representing my country has always been the greatest thing I could imagine, and I will often look back on this wonderful period.”
“When I looked ahead to the next two years and the World Cup, I began to feel that the best thing for this team would be to have a new face and new ideas to lead it into a new great chapter. Therefore, the best thing is for someone else to lead this team forward.”
“This is not about me, but only about what is best for the team.”
