Today, in the men’s double trap shooting final, Chinese competitor Qi Ying participated.
In the first phase of the first 25 shots, Qi Ying hit 23 targets. He was only behind British shooter Hales’ 24 hits and tied with Swedish shooter Levin.
The second phase then began, with one competitor being eliminated after every five shots.
After five more shots, Qi Ying, Hales, and Levin all hit their targets, and Qi Ying continued to push for the next round.
Hales made a mistake on the 32nd shot, while Levin had consecutive misses. Qi Ying missed the 34th and 35th shots, allowing Guatemalan competitor Cadena to catch up. Swedish shooter Levin was eliminated in this round, leaving three competitors assured of a medal.
Qi Ying missed again on the 40th shot, as did Guatemalan competitor Cadena, which secured Qi Ying a silver medal in a close call.
The battle for gold and silver medals involved ten more shots, with Qi Ying trailing Hales by three hits.
In the first five of these shots, both competitors hit all their targets, leaving Qi Ying still three hits behind.
In the last five shots, Qi Ying missed on the 47th shot, while Hales hit his target, thus securing the gold medal for Hales ahead of time.
Ultimately, Qi Ying hit 44 targets, while Hales hit 48, breaking the Olympic record.
