Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon officially announced his retirement at the end of last season and subsequently took on the role of coordinator for the national team following the passing of Vialli. In a recent interview, Buffon discussed his post-retirement life and the upcoming UEFA European Championship.
Reflecting on his retired life, Buffon said, “In the nine months after retiring, I didn’t do any sports. Maybe I was a bit tired of it all, and now I need to find some motivation to get moving again. I’ve been training for 30 years or even longer, so this sedentary lifestyle is quite dull. I need something to drive me.”
On his role as coordinator, he commented, “Now I’m the head of the Italian delegation. To be honest, I can barely organize my own house, let alone hold such an important position. But I’m enjoying it; it’s an amusing role. I act as a filter between the players, the coach, and public opinion, and I can help the president when he’s not around.”
Regarding the imminent Euros, Buffon expressed his optimism, “These players and coaches are dedicated and humble people, and I’m thrilled to be part of their journey. I’m confident that, no matter what, we won’t leave a negative impression on the fans.”
