On August 6, the Chengdu World Games mascots “Shubao” and “Jinzai” made their first public appearance, and the official motto “Boundless Sports, Countless Wonders” was also released.
“Shubao and Jinzai,” inspired by the “twin treasures” of the giant panda and the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey.
The names of the mascots draw inspiration from “Shu brocade,” with “Shu” and “Jin” as the initial characters of each mascot’s name. The second character in each name is derived from the distinctive features of the giant panda and the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey. The gentle and loyal giant panda is named “Bao,” while the agile and intelligent Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey is named “Zai.”
The petals of the hibiscus flower native to Chengdu are reimagined as the inner ear of the giant panda; the texture of Shu brocade blended with green mountains and clear waters forms the mascots’ attire; artifacts unearthed from Sanxingdui become the ears of the Sichuan golden snub-nosed monkey; and the solar bird pattern becomes a cultural motif on the clothing.
