Napoli comfortably defeated Mantova 3-0 in their second preseason friendly match. After the game, head coach Conte expressed his satisfaction with the players’ performance and emphasized the need to continue instilling the philosophy of high pressing and controlling the game.
With goals from Lindstrom, Spinazzola, and Cediña, Napoli secured a second consecutive victory in their preseason friendly against Serie B side Mantova. Conte once again tested the 3-4-2-1 formation, with Cediña playing as a false nine. Notably, Osimhen was absent for the entire match and did not even sit on the bench. In a post-match interview, Conte said, “The experiment worked well today. After nine days of preparation, we delivered results physically and tactically, such as high pressing and advancing our defensive line. However, we still need to improve in controlling the game.”
Conte believes that consistent victories will give the team more room to adjust, and Napoli needs a complete transformation. He added, “The momentum of victories can help us keep winning games. I reiterate that we must do better with ball possession, but I am very satisfied with the team’s aggression and advanced positioning. We need to continue working and improving, so the return of players who have been participating in international matches will undoubtedly provide a further boost to the squad. We started a bit slowly, then gradually adapted to the rhythm. In the coming days, the lads will increasingly understand that it is crucial to bring great intensity into the game. I don’t want a team that only knows how to defend and wait for death.”
Napoli will face Aigle-Nationale on July 28, Brest on July 31, and Girona on August 3. After completing their preseason schedule, their first official match will be the Coppa Italia qualifier against Modena on August 10.
