On August 4, the official schedule for the WTA1000 Toronto event was released, and Zheng Qinwen, who had planned to participate, withdrew from this leg of the tournament. As a result, only three of the top ten women’s singles players in the world rankings are competing.
After winning the women’s singles gold medal at the Paris Olympics early this morning, there has been much anticipation regarding Zheng Qinwen’s next steps. Today, the WTA officially announced the draw and schedule for the Toronto leg of the tour. According to the schedule, Chinese player Zheng Qinwen is not listed as she has withdrawn from this leg of the competition. The only Chinese players participating are Zhang Shuai and Yuan Yue, who will face Fernandez and Bucsa respectively in their first matches.
Notably, only three of the top ten women’s singles players in the world rankings—Gauff, Sabalenka, and Pegula—are taking part in the competition. The WTA1000 Toronto event will take place from August 6 to 13. Additionally, the WTA1000 Cincinnati event will be held from August 13 to 19, and it is likely that Chinese player Zheng Qinwen will participate in preparation for the US Open starting on August 26.
