With less than a month until the Euros, England’s manager Southgate has yet to announce his national team roster, not even a preliminary list. As speculation mounts, British newspapers like The Mail and The Mirror analyze that players such as Sterling, Phillips, Rashford, Grealish, and Shaw could struggle to make it into England’s Euro squad.
Sterling, after joining Chelsea, has been plagued by injuries, and despite occasional flashes of brilliance, his age and recent form may not convince Southgate to include him in the squad;
Phillips, since moving to Manchester City, has not seen much playing time and had a disastrous spell at West Ham United after a winter loan. Currently injured, he is all but ruled out for the Euros;
Southgate is expected to initially announce a 30-man provisional squad, with Luke Shaw from Manchester United possibly in contention. However, the left-back has had injury issues, and it remains uncertain if he will be fit for the tournament;
Grealish and Rashford face stiff competition from an abundance of young attacking talent that emerged since the 2022 World Cup, including Bowen, Saka, Foden, Watkins, Palmer, and Gordon, casting doubt on their participation in the Euros.
