Recently, LaLiga president Javier Tebas, in an interview with Sport, stated that as Barcelona’s financial situation gradually improves, the summer acquisition of winger Nico Williams is becoming a transaction worth expecting.
Despite longstanding financial issues, Barcelona has been consistently linked with Nico Williams throughout the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are continuing their policy of reducing the club’s wage burden to free up funds and salary space, aiming to gain more flexibility in the transfer market.
Nico Williams’ current club, Athletic Bilbao, is well aware that it will be challenging to retain the sought-after winger this summer. However, they have no intention of accepting offers below his €58 million release clause for the 22-year-old Williams. Spanish transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had previously opined that while Barcelona could propose payments in installments, the deal would still be difficult to achieve without major sales.
However, according to Sport, Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams has received support from LaLiga president Javier Tebas. Tebas told Sport in an interview, “If they achieve a 1:1 transfer expenditure-to-income ratio, they can complete the deal. Barcelona’s efforts to reduce their total wage bill by over €200 million, combined with other measures already taken, make it entirely possible for them to bring in a player like Nico Williams.”
