According to Sportbible, England players participating in the 2024 UEFA European Championship will receive bonuses based on their playing time, with rewards increasing as the tournament progresses.
As one of the favorites for the title, the Three Lions face stiff competition from the likes of Spain, France, hosts Germany, and defending champions Italy. For Southgate’s stars, aside from the pursuit of a major trophy for the first time since the 1966 World Cup, there is also financial reward for their involvement in the Euros.
UEFA stipulates that each player will be remunerated based on their participation, with the exact distribution decided by each national association. An initial 9 million is provided for each team, with the prize money increasing as the tournament unfolds, culminating in a 28 million reward for the eventual champions.
Reportedly, each England player earns around £2,000 per match, but since 2007, they have donated this money to the England Football Foundation, supporting charitable causes. The English Football Association also has its own bonus structure to motivate the team to achieve better results.
Before finalizing the 26-man squad for Germany, Southgate emphasized the rigor of the selection process: “We understand the value of every player, so we give them the consideration they deserve. We aim to make fair decisions, considering both individual ability and the team dynamic. The depth of our squad is encouraging, as demonstrated by the 3-0 win over Bosnia. Fitness isn’t an issue, and some players need game time to maintain their sharpness, which was why we played Harry Kane.”
