On July 15, Belgian club Genk officially announced the signing of South Korean international Oh Hyeon-gyu.
The 23-year-old Oh Hyeon-gyu joined Celtic from Suwon Samsung Bluewings in January 2023 for a fee of €2.8 million, marking the beginning of his overseas career. During the 2022-23 season, he made 20 appearances across all competitions for Celtic, scoring seven goals.
However, following Brendan Rodgers’ appointment as manager last season, Oh Hyeon-gyu gradually lost his place in the team. He featured in 26 matches throughout the season, starting only three times, and scored five goals in total. In the second half of the season, he was even excluded from the squad by Rodgers.
