On July 9th, the semi-finals of the European Championship are set to kick off. Former Celtic striker and current Sky Sports commentator, Sutton, has shared his thoughts on the upcoming match between Spain and France.
Mentioning the French team, my first thought is their flamboyant style of play, but this French squad is surprisingly dull. Defensively, the central defensive duo of Saliba and Upamecano have been outstanding, and goalkeeper Mike Maignan is in top form. However, I am shocked by their offensive struggles. Mbappe has yet to find his rhythm, while Dembele’s form has been inconsistent.
I consider Spain to be the best-performing team in this European Championship. They may start slowly, but once they hit their stride, they become unstoppable. Although Pedri will be absent for this match, and Llorente and Carvajal are suspended due to accumulated yellow cards, Coach Luis de la Fuente will make the necessary adjustments.
If I were to analyze logically, I would say that Spain will come out victorious. Nevertheless, I still hope to see Mbappe regain his form and for Dembele to step up, which could allow France to dominate Spain. Despite their underwhelming performance thus far, there is a possibility they might advance to the final. I predict France will beat Spain 2-1.
