According to ESPN reporter Diego Monroig, the halftime break for the Copa America final will be extended from 15 to 25 minutes due to a special performance by Colombian superstar Shakira.
The 2024 Copa America final is set to kick off at 8:00 AM on July 15th at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, with Argentina facing off against Colombia. The Copa America organizers have already announced that Colombian music sensation Shakira will make an appearance at the final, delivering a spectacular musical performance for the fans.
Hearing Shakira perform live would typically be a delightful experience, but in this edition of the Copa America, it may lead to a somewhat peculiar arrangement.
It’s well known that the halftime break in football matches is always 15 minutes, no more, no less. However, reports now indicate that since Shakira’s performance is scheduled during halftime, the standard 15 minutes won’t suffice. Consequently, the halftime break for this match will not be 15 minutes, but instead, it will be extended to 25 minutes.
From a competitive standpoint, extending the halftime break could allow both teams’ players additional time to recover their stamina. Yet, scheduling a 25-minute halftime in an international tournament like the Copa America is indeed unprecedented.
