On July 15th, the Spanish team clinched their fourth Henri Delaunay trophy by defeating England 2-1 in the Euro Cup final. Post-match, Spanish captain Morata expressed gratitude to former international players Iniesta and Bojan, crediting their encouragement for enabling him to persevere until this victorious moment.
As the captain of the Spanish national team, Morata lifted the Henri Delaunay trophy high, officially crowning Spain as Euro Cup champions. During his interview with TVE on the pitch, Morata opened up about his feelings, stating, “Apart from my wife, children, and family, Iniesta and Bojan have played a significant role in why I am here at the Euro Cup. I knew them as players, but personally, I didn’t know Bojan well before this. However, they are the kind of people you meet in life who can help you through tough times. They guided me through the darkest moments to reach the light at the end. Without them, I might not have participated in the Euro Cup.”
Morata also expressed his honor for the support he received from his teammates in this edition of the Spanish national team: “This means more than scoring 20 goals. I don’t know if my thoughts are visible, but in this tournament, I’m delighted to wear the national team’s jersey. I understand that everything I did to create space and relieve pressure on my teammates was my duty, and now I’m the happiest Spanish football fan in the world.”
Morata didn’t discuss whether this could be his last match for the national team, instead sincerely thanking the fans who supported the team from the beginning. He said, “We felt it right from the start; we saw the unwavering trust of all Spain in us. I hope the whole country takes pride in this team and all its future achievements. Recalling my service to various age groups of the national team since I was 14, winning feels unbelievably amazing. Right now, I just want to thank all my teammates, coaches, and everyone who helped me get here.”
