According to Spanish TV channel La Sexta, Alvarez turned down a new contract offered by Manchester City at the end of last season and officially requested to leave the club.
The report states that Alvarez’s current contract with Manchester City is set to expire in 2028. The Sky Blues were willing to give the Argentine forward a pay raise and extend his contract until 2029. However, Alvarez rejected the new deal from Manchester City and asked the management to set a “reasonable price” that potential buyers could accept.
The 24-year-old Alvarez has made 103 appearances for Manchester City so far, scoring 36 goals and providing 18 assists, helping the team win one UEFA Champions League title, one FIFA Club World Cup title, two Premier League titles, and one FA Cup title. However, due to the presence of Haaland, he has had to accept a substitute role at Manchester City.
