On July 10th, in the semi-finals of the European Championship, England will face off against the Netherlands. Ahead of this major clash, English football legend Teddy Sheringham stated that England will dismantle the Netherlands, invoking the memory of their 4-1 victory over them during the 1996 European Championship to inspire his team.
Sheringham, discussing the upcoming battle between England and the Netherlands, said, “We must perform at a high level to defeat the Dutch. Just as we did in the 1996 European Championship when we thrashed the Netherlands 4-1. In that match, many great players stepped up for England. The current England squad possesses similar potential, with players like Kane, Bellingham, and Foden capable of doing the same.”
In this edition of the European Championship, while England was considered a strong contender for the title, they struggled through their matches. They managed only one win and two draws in the group stage but still advanced as the group leader. In the knockout rounds, their encounters against Slovakia and Switzerland were also far from comfortable.
