According to the French media outlet L’Équipe, despite France’s failure to reach the final of this European Championship, the French Football Federation (FFF) president has confirmed that Didier Deschamps will not be dismissed as a result. He will continue to lead the team into the 2026 World Cup campaign.
In the early hours of today, France lost 1-2 against Spain in the semi-finals of the European Championship, failing to advance further in the tournament. Over the past four major tournaments, Deschamps has led the French team to three finals. Judging by performance, Deschamps’ record still deserves praise. However, since the first group stage match of this European Championship, France’s performance has been criticized. It was not until this semi-final that France managed to score their first open-play goal of the tournament. As such, rumors of Deschamps being sacked after the European Championship have been rife.
In response to doubts from fans and the media, FFF president Le Graët reassured everyone in an interview with L’Équipe. He stated, “Deschamps’ contract runs until 2026, and he has achieved the sporting objectives we set for him. I see no reason to jeopardize his contract. His past results speak for themselves. Deschamps will continue with his mission.”
