The Polish national team’s journey leading up to the Euro Cup has been nothing short of disastrous, unbelievably so. A few days ago, Milik suffered a knee injury, and now two more forwards are down. Firstly, Swiderski got injured unexpectedly during his goal celebration against Turkey, and then, Lewandowski fell victim as well. The Barcelona striker had to be substituted after just 30 minutes into the friendly match against Turkey.
The match was incredible in its succession of misfortunes. Lewandowski and Swiderski combined for a goal, but Swiderski injured himself upon landing after celebrating, attempting to continue before ultimately leaving the pitch in pain.
Fifteen minutes later, Lewandowski also went down due to a muscle issue. Now, Head Coach Michal Probierz has only Piatek left at his disposal, a forward who has previously played for AC Milan, Genoa, and Fiorentina.
What about Lewandowski’s condition? No official statement has been released, but some Polish media outlets have reported: “Swiderski has undergone an MRI, while Robert Lewandowski is experiencing pain in the back of his thigh.”
The Barcelona forward left the field holding his thigh and told the medical team, “I feel some pain.” Photos taken by journalists show Lewandowski with an ice pack on the affected area.
With these three forwards’ injuries, added to the already injured Taras Roman?uk, who is out due to an ankle issue, Poland’s squad is severely depleted. The midfielder is currently unavailable for play.
It’s worth mentioning that although the Euro Cup squads have been announced, each team can make one player change before their first match. Poland will face the Netherlands on June 16th.
