Netherlands head coach Ronald Koeman recently discussed his team selection on the radio show Veronica Offside.
In the recently announced Euro squad, players like Zirkzee, Timber, and Bouwmesster were not included, sparking some controversy. Koeman explained on the program that this was because these players were either injured or had just recovered, making it too risky to include them.
However, Koeman also mentioned that he was willing to make exceptions for certain experienced players – Depay and De Jong, both recently returned from injury, were included in the squad. He stated, “This time we can take 26 players, so we can make an exception for De Jong and Depay; I believe they can start the tournament in a reasonable condition.”
Koeman initially named a 30-man squad, with four players set to be cut. He must finalize the Netherlands’ final list by June 7th.
