The Atlético Madrid forward Memphis Depay has been included in the Netherlands squad for the first time in a year, following a series of injury setbacks that kept him out of both club and international action.
So far, Depay has scored an impressive 44 goals in 88 appearances for the Oranje, just six shy of the national team’s all-time leading scorer, Robin van Persie. Additionally, only Wesley Sneijder has more assists (33) than Depay’s 28.
Commenting on his ambitions, Depay said, “I’m very confident of scoring 7, 20, or even 30 goals, and don’t forget the assists – I’m working on those too. Those are great records, but personally, I’m even more eager to win the European Championship with the national team.”
