July 3 – According to Argentine sports outlet TyC Sports, forward Ángel Di María is set to start in Argentina’s quarterfinal match against Ecuador. Manager Lionel Scaloni plans to employ a 4-4-2 formation, with doubts remaining over Lionel Messi’s starting position.
Messi suffered a recurrence of a leg injury during the match against Chile, causing him to miss Argentina’s final group stage game versus Canada. Reports indicate that Messi has rejoined team training, but it is uncertain if he will start the upcoming fixture.
In the meantime, Scaloni has decided to field a 4-4-2 setup against Ecuador, potentially featuring Di María, De Paul, MacAllister, and González in midfield. If both Messi and Di María are in the lineup, González would be on the bench.
On July 5 at 09:00, Argentina will face Ecuador in the Copa América quarterfinals, determining which team advances to the tournament’s semifinals.
