Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte has reacted to former German international Jens Lehmann’s recent derogatory remarks about Spain, joining other Spanish players in pushing back against the criticism.
Lehmann had stated, “Spain is a small team. They lack experience and play like a youth team most of the time.”
Laporte commented, “We haven’t discussed this topic in the locker room. His words won’t affect us in any way; it’s not negative for us, actually, it could work in our favor. If we beat them in the next match, Lehmann will have to shut up and won’t be able to say anything more.”
“I’m very much looking forward to this game, eager for that day to come and give a great performance to win. We’ll see if we can achieve that goal. We’re aware of how well we’ve been playing so far, and that’s crucial for us. Teams like England, Portugal, and France, favorites to win, sometimes struggle against perceived weaker sides. Anything can happen, and we’ll do our best, but always with respect for the competition.”
“I’m not concerned about doubts over my professionalism. I’m here to defend Spain, not to justify myself.”
