On July 2, The New York Times reported that Manchester United has secured Qualcomm’s subsidiary Snapdragon as its new kit sponsor for a three-year deal worth a staggering $225 million (an average of $75 million per year). Snapdragon has the option to extend the contract by an additional two years.
In 2022, German software company TeamViewer announced it would not renew its five-year contract worth £47 million per year (approximately £37 million at current exchange rates) with Manchester United. In December of the same year, Manchester United and TeamViewer agreed on a buy-back clause for the club’s shirt sponsorship rights.
Today, Manchester United unveiled its new home kit, prominently featuring Snapdragon as the sponsor. Both the men’s and women’s teams will wear the kit in various competitions.
The shirt sponsorship agreement does not include a clause requiring Manchester United to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. The club will not face penalties even if it fails to secure a spot in European competition for several years. Snapdragon will have the opportunity to feature the name of a charity on the front of Manchester United’s shirts for one match each season in support of charitable causes.
Commenting on the partnership, the group’s CEO, McQuillan, said, “We chose Manchester United due to its massive global fan base of 1 billion and unparalleled shirt sales. The exposure a Manchester United shirt sponsor receives in any match can rival that of the Super Bowl.”
