According to journalist Michael Plant, Manchester City have benefited from a resale clause in Douglas Luiz’s contract, earning £8.5 million from his move to Juventus.
Michael Plant reveals that when City sold Douglas Luiz to Aston Villa in the 2019 summer transfer window, they included a 20% sell-on clause. This clause has now come into effect with the player’s transfer to Juventus, resulting in a windfall of £8.5 million for Manchester City.
Luiz never made a first-team appearance for City, but after joining Villa, he became a key player, featuring in 204 matches, scoring 22 goals and providing 24 assists. In the 23/24 season, he helped the team secure a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League.
