On June 29, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, Jeonbuk Hyundai FC has imposed a multi-million won internal fine on its team captain Kim Jin-su due to his alcohol-related problems. Although no criminal offense was committed, it is reported that Kim’s drinking habits have harmed the team.
A club official stated that this is the highest fine in Jeonbuk Hyundai’s history and the highest ever in the K League’s history. The maximum fine allowed by the K League is reportedly half a player’s monthly salary, but given Kim’s substantial income (1.42 billion won for the 2023 season), his fine surpasses that limit.
As of now, the 2024 K League 1 season is past its halfway point, with Jeonbuk Hyundai struggling at the bottom of the table with 3 wins, 7 draws, and 9 losses.
