According to today’s Liverpool Echo, Liverpool forward and Scottish prospect Ben Doak will miss the 2024 UEFA European Championship due to a new injury.
Doak had initially been named in Scotland’s provisional 28-man squad but was omitted ahead of the warm-up matches. The Scottish Football Association later confirmed that the 18-year-old has withdrawn from the squad through injury, a significant blow for the young talent. This season, Doak made five appearances for Liverpool’s first team, but hasn’t featured at any level since sustaining an injury with the U21 national team in December.
Last month, following his recovery, Doak returned to training with Liverpool’s senior squad and earned a call-up to the Scottish national team due to his good form, especially after the departure of Dykes left Scotland with limited striking options. Ahead of the friendly against Gibraltar, Scotland manager Clarke had hinted that Doak could see some playing time, but he ultimately didn’t make the matchday squad.
