On the evening of May 21st (Beijing Time), the Portuguese national team officially announced its 26-man squad, with 39-year-old Ronaldo successfully making the cut.
This will be Ronaldo’s sixth consecutive European Championship since 2004. All other players who participated in the 2004 edition have since retired.
In the previous five editions of the Euro finals, Ronaldo has appeared in 25 matches, scoring 14 goals, making him the all-time leading scorer in Euro final tournaments (he is also the top scorer in Euro qualifiers with 41 goals). Additionally, he holds three records in Euro final tournament goals: scoring in at least five different Euros, netting at least twice in four separate editions, and finding the back of the net three times in three different tournaments. If he scores in this Euro, he will break his own record to become the first player ever to score in six consecutive European Championships.
Including the World Cup, this will be Ronaldo’s 11th major international tournament, with a total of 39 goals scored.
