Jakarta – Gresini Racing has partnered with MotoGP Guru and SPORTPASS, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, to introduce a fan-supported motorsport sponsorship initiative in MotoGP. This program allows MotoGP enthusiasts to purchase a private team sponsorship package starting at €125.
According to Graeme Warring, founder of WePlay Media, in an interview with Cointelegraph, the biggest challenge in launching a fan-accessible MotoGP sponsorship plan is:
“The biggest challenge is, as with anything, selling it. When you launch something new that’s never been done before, finding the right product-market fit is always challenging.”
Warring, whose game studio WePlay Media backs Guru MotoGP, explained that they have developed organizational infrastructure and on-the-ground teams to “bring ‘life’ to the IRL (in-real-life) experience,” he said.
Decentralized Impact
The decision to offer sponsorships at a lower cost opens the product to a diverse audience and reduces the risk of centralization.
Commenting on the crypto space’s key talking point, Warring stated that this fan sponsorship scheme has the potential to decentralize ownership of MotoGP teams and allow for greater fan engagement.
“Decentralization of the concept is at the heart of the program. We’re not big corporate sponsors dominating the sponsor room; instead, we’re innovating around decentralized ownership around the fan experience,” Warring said.
Sponsorship Packages
The sponsorship packages will provide VIP paddock experiences for the 2024 Grand Prix, motorcycle naming rights, team website recognition, and exclusive events.
Fans who own a team sponsorship plan can also join Zoom calls with team members, receive customized merchandise, and have a chance to win a Ducati Panigale V4S used by Marc Marquez.
