Jakarta – Francesco Bagnaia triumphed in the Indonesian MotoGP race at the Mandira Circuit on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, noon local time. The Ducati Lenovo Team rider was surprised, as he hadn’t won the 15th round of the 2023 MotoGP season prior to this event.
Starting from the 12th position, Bagnaia managed to capitalize on the misfortunes of some of his stronger rivals and fought his way to the front. Notably, championship leader Jorge Martin, who started from the front row, crashed out and failed to finish the race as a member of the Pramac Ducati team.
Seven riders did not complete the race. They were Martin (Pramac Ducati), Johann Zarco (Pramac Ducati), Marc Marquez (Honda), Joan Mir (Honda), Augusto Fernandez (Tech 3 KTM), Luca Marini (Mooney VR46 Ducati), and Pol Espargaro (Tech 3 KTM).
Bagnaia’s victory in the Indonesian MotoGP propelled him back to the top of the riders’ championship standings, overtaking Martin. Bagnaia now has a total of 346 points, while Martin trails with 328 points. Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) secured second place on the podium, with Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) rounding out the top three.
