Jakarta – MotoGP rider Marc Marquez will make his debut with the Ducati satellite team, Gresini Racing, in the 2024 season. Entering a new season with a new team, Marquez admits to feeling the nerves.
“I feel nervous, like there are butterflies in my stomach,” MRC Marquez said, as quoted by the official MotoGP website on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
“Although I’ve been in this (MotoGP) championship for many years, it’s a big change,” he added.
Despite the tension, Marquez is trying to embrace and enjoy the situation.
This is a common scenario for the Spaniard, who just needs to adapt once again.
“I’m trying to understand everything with my new technical team and new bike. In the end, I jumped on a winning bike. So, after that, it’s in my hands,” Marquez explained.
Before the 2024 season starts, the six-time MotoGP champion had a test session with Gresini after the 2023 MotoGP finale in Valencia.
Marquez acknowledged being satisfied with his new team, although some adjustments will be necessary before the new season begins in March 2024.
“That (test) was an adaptation day, especially regarding the position on the bike. We changed a few things because I wasn’t entirely comfortable in certain areas. However, the speed was still there,” Marquez said.
“I know the bike and how to manage it. I still have a lot to learn, maybe not to go faster but to become more consistent and safer,” he added.
After riding the new bike, comparisons with his old Honda machine were inevitable. Marquez was asked about the RC213V motorcycle he rode for many years at Honda.
However, the rider chose his words wisely. Marquez refrained from sharing his thoughts on the subject.
“I don’t like to compare motorcycles, especially in public. It’s a different bike, with a different riding style,” said the number 93 rider.
“There are some things to understand at the level of positioning and communication with the team. That’s logical since I’ve worked with the same team for 11 years.
“They’ve received me very well. Everything is very interesting, and it helps me get better and more relaxed,” he said.
The second MotoGP 2024 test session will take place from February 6-8, 2024, at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, following the first trial.
The 2024 MotoGP season will kick off with the first race at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar from March 8-11, 2024.
