The 2024 season of the FIM EnduroGP World Championship kicks off with its first round on April 5-7 in Portugal. The FIM’s endurance off-road competition encompasses the EnduroGP World Championship, HardEnduro World Championship, indoor Super Enduro World Championship, and the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE), where teams compete under national banners, including clubs, but with non-FIM official scoring for other categories.
The new 2024 EnduroGP season consists of seven rounds, all held in Europe, with two point-scoring sections per class at each event. Scoring differs slightly from road racing, with 20 points for a win, 17 for second, 15 for third, and so on down to 1 point for 15th place. Classes include GP (EnduroGP, E1, E2, E3), Junior, Youth, and Women.
The Portuguese opener of the EnduroGP 2024 sees a clash between Japanese and European manufacturers as various models from Honda/RedMoto Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Beta, Fantic, GASGAS, Husqvarna, KTM, Rieju, Sherco, and TM Racing participate across different classes. Most manufacturers with off-road racing bikes are represented in the competition.
In the top tier, EnduroGP, KTM’s Spanish rider Josep Garcia secured a first and a second, while RedHonda’s British rider Steve Holcombe took a third and a first, making them the main protagonists of this round. In the E2 class, Beta’s Nathan Watson and GASGAS’s Andrea Verona shared the honors with a win each. The E3 category witnessed a contest between Beta, Sherco, and TM Racing, with Brad Freeman of Beta winning the first section and Hamish MacDonald of Sherco triumphing in the second.
