Jakarta – 2023 MotoGP runner-up Jorge Martin has threatened to leave Ducati if he is not promoted to the factory team.
Currently riding for Pramac Racing, Martin had a fierce championship battle last season with Ducati factory rider Francesco Bagnaia, which went down to the wire.
Finishing second in the standings late last season, Martin, considered a favorite for this year’s title, has started eyeing an opportunity to join the factory outfit next season.
“I see myself as a factory rider in 2025. Otherwise, I will look for other options,” he said, as quoted by Crash.
Throughout the 2023 season, the Spaniard never officially requested a promotion to the factory squad. However, at the end of last season, he began considering this possibility.
If he had won the 2023 championship, his contract would have automatically elevated him to the factory team. As he did not secure the title, Martin remains with Pramac, Ducati’s satellite team.
“My main goal is to go to Ducati (factory). If that’s not possible, I have to look for other options. There are many factories that are very competitive, and we’ll see what the best choice is,” he added.
“I’m happy to continue with Pramac. It’s the best place to fight for the championship,” he concluded.
Last year, Martin finished the championship with 428 points, 39 points ahead of Bagnaia, who successfully defended his title in the prestigious motorsport event.
