Primoz Roglič, the Slovenian cyclist, has been one of the most successful grand tour (GC) riders in recent years. Towards the end of last year, Roglič left Team Jumbo-Visma to join Bahrain-Mahaloona, a move that signaled the team’s full support for him in this year’s Tour de France.
It’s no surprise that with his new team, Roglič would be using a new race bike. The Bahrain-Mahaloona squad races on the Tarmac SL8 model, which was launched in August of the previous year, replacing the highly successful SL7. They also employ a Specialized “suite” consisting of components like saddles, helmets, shoes, Roval handlebars, Rapide and Alpinist wheelsets.
After nine years with Shimano, the team switched to SRAM during the winter, meaning riders now have Red AXS instead of Dura-Ace. For Roglič, this change was less of an adjustment, as he had already been using SRAM at Team Jumbo-Visma. Additional accessories from the team include Supacaz handlebar tape, Specialized water bottle cages, SRAM-powered Hammerhead computers, K-Edge computer mounts, and chain keepers.
Standing around 177 cm tall, Roglič rode a 51cm Cervélo frame with Team Jumbo-Visma. With the TARMAC SL8, he opted for a 52cm frame. Like many pros, he favors smaller frames, longer stem lengths, and extended seatposts.
In the 2024 season, Bahrain-Mahaloona maintains its classic green and black livery, but adds a fluorescent yellow accent on the fork’s inner side for a fresh look. A long, straight seatpost with a mountain bike saddle is a distinctive feature of Roglič’s setup.
Roglič pairs his TARMAC SL8 with the ROVAL RAPIDE integrated handlebar, a popular choice for the frame.
Roglič’s bike doesn’t feature a seatpost dust cover, reflecting his preference for minimalism. The team logo appears to be a sticker, while his name plate is affixed above the top tube.
During the team’s training camp in Mallorca, Roglič raced with non-commercial 52/39T cassette. Reliable sources indicate that he will once again employ a single-speed setup with a gravel-specific freewheel in the 2024 season.
