The last event of the European season, the BMW International Open, will take place from July 4 to July 7. Hosted at the Golf Club München Eichenried in Germany, 156 players will compete for a share of $2.5 million and 3,000 points on the Race to Dubai, with the winner receiving 500 points.
The Final Dance
Bernhard Langer, the most successful player in German history, will make his 513th and final appearance on the DP World Tour this week. The 66-year-old, who once held the world number one spot and has claimed 42 DP World Tour titles, has also represented Europe in 10 Ryder Cups, leading the team to victory in 2004.
This tournament marks Langer’s first appearance in Munich since 2012, providing a fitting farewell for the great figure of European golf. “I have no idea how I’m going to react,” Langer said, contemplating the end of his 50-year professional career. “I’ve never said goodbye to golf before, so this is new, and I think I might be very emotional.”
Defending Champion
Tyrrell Hatton, the reigning BMW International Open champion, is back in action this week. Last year, he entered the final round four shots behind, but a resilient performance and an opponent’s slip-up on the 17th hole secured his victory, making him only the second South African to win the title.
Hatton has finished runner-up three times this season, including at the European Open earlier this month, which was his last event before this week. Well-rested, he returns to the scene of his triumph, ready to defend his title.
Chinese Players
Chinese golfers Wu Ashun, Li Hao Tong, and Chen Guoxin have traveled from Milan, Italy, to Munich for the BMW International Open. Chen, returning after nearly a month off, failed to advance at last week’s Italian Open. With a week of recovery, he is expected to improve his performance.
