Recently, former WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (32-6, 24 KOs) told the media that current WBA lightweight champion and three-division world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) is actually very powerful, and many people underestimate his abilities.
Andre Berto said, “I like both Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin (18-0, 12 KOs), but it’s hard not to favor Davis. He’s a very well-rounded fighter with great speed, strength, and many overlook his overall versatility. Davis is accustomed to big fights, whereas this is the first major test for Frank Martin. Sometimes big fights can break down boxers with weaker mental fortitude, especially when facing someone as fierce as Davis. Martin has a lot to overcome. Davis has solid technique, power, and mental toughness, so I favor him in this bout.”
Davis and Martin will collide this Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Currently, the odds are 1-5 in favor of Davis. In his last fight, Davis knocked out Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) in seven rounds back in April. In that bout, Davis imposed a catchweight of 136 pounds, with a secondary weigh-in limit of 146 pounds, which lessened Garcia’s effectiveness.
