Recently, unified two-division champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) told the media that he favors Dmitry Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) to emerge victorious in his October 12 unification clash against current WBC/IBF/WBO triple champion Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) at 175 pounds.
Said Usyk, “I predict Bivol will beat Beterbiev. I know Bivol has quick feet, good movement. I watched his fight against Canelo Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs). Bivol boxes well, has a tight defense, and lands good counters and combinations.”
Regarding Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs), Usyk commented, “I don’t know if he was surprised by how I stumbled him last time. But I didn’t think much about it. I have great respect for Tyson Fury; he’s an excellent boxer, a good friend, and a tough opponent. Fury is very smart. Though he talks a lot, he knows how to promote and make our fights attractive.”
Usyk will face Fury in their highly anticipated rematch on December 21, with a record-breaking purse of $114 million, up from $45 million in their first encounter. Fury earned $105 million in the first fight and will receive $76 million for the second. Both boxers have shattered previous earnings records, with each achieving a nine-figure payday in one of the contests. It’s a mutual accomplishment and a testament to their drawing power.
