Recently, Gervonta “Tank” Davis (30-0, 28 KOs), the current WBA lightweight champion and three-division world titleholder from the United States, and his co-trainer Kenny Ellis revealed to the media that WBO lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) is not willing to immediately face Davis for a unification bout at 135 pounds. Instead, Lomachenko wants to fight the winner of Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) in 2025.
Kenny Ellis said, “Lomachenko stated that he would like to step aside for the Davis vs. Stevenson fight this fall and then challenge the winner in 2025.”
Stevenson, who yesterday secured a dominant 12-round points victory over Aram Avagyan (12-2, 7 KOs), a German-Armenian, has now completed his contract with Top Rank and is a free agent. He revealed that he turned down a $15 million offer to renew his contract for five more fights with Bob Arum’s company.
Shakur Stevenson commented, “My fight with Gervonta Davis will be the biggest event in boxing today. Think about it, everyone across America will be watching – it’ll be the biggest and most exciting event in the sport. My plan is to go straight for Davis.”
