On August 3rd, in the final round of the Olympic women’s basketball group stage, the Chinese women’s basketball team secured a significant 80-58 victory over Puerto Rico, keeping their hopes of advancing alive.
In this match, the Chinese women’s basketball team performed exceptionally well as a cohesive unit. Ten players received playing time, with nine contributing to the scoring. Four out of the five starters scored in double digits, and five players overall achieved double-digit scores. Notably, their strong defensive performance held Puerto Rico to under 20 points in each quarter. It was this collective excellence that enabled China to triumph by a 22-point margin. Puerto Rico, which had been virtually unstoppable in the fourth quarter of their previous two games, found no solutions against the Chinese defense in this match.
Li Meng led the team with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists. Li Yurou contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds, Wang Siyu added 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, Huang Sijing chipped in with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Han Xu came off the bench to score 10 points and grab 9 rebounds. Only Luo Xinyu, who played for one minute, did not score any points.
