August 5 news: Noted sports journalist Marc Stein revealed earlier that the Golden State Warriors are still the team most eager to acquire Lauri Markkanen, but their offered trade package has yet to impress the Utah Jazz.
Marc Stein mentioned that the Warriors’ offer to the Jazz did not involve Brandon Bogorčič and Jonathan Kuminga.
“As of Sunday (local time), the Warriors are still considered the most eager pursuer of Markkanen in the league… However, they remain unwilling to include Brandon Bogorčič in the trade package. So far, the pursuit of Markkanen by the Warriors has not included Bogorčič or Kuminga, instead opting primarily for future draft pick compensation. And so far, no team has met Danny Ainge’s asking price,” Marc Stein wrote in his report.
The Warriors have consistently viewed Bogorčič as a key part of their future, especially as they approach the post-Curry era.
Noted sports journalist Anthony Slater reported in July that the Warriors place great value on Bogorčič, with some even suggesting that if faced with a choice between Bogorčič and Kuminga, they might opt to keep the former.
The Warriors’ high regard for Bogorčič is justified. As a rookie last season, he averaged 9.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game in 26.6 minutes off the bench.
Kuminga averaged career-highs of 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game last season.
