Today, according to Eurobasket media outlet BasketNews, the head coach of the Lithuanian men’s basketball team, Kazys Maksvytis, has resigned from his position as national team head coach.
The Lithuanian men’s basketball team finished in sixth place at last year’s FIBA World Cup and did not secure a direct qualification for the Olympics. They lost to Puerto Rico in the final of the just-concluded Olympic qualifying tournament in the Puerto Rico zone, missing out on a spot in the Paris Olympics.
During Maksvytis’ tenure of over three years, the Lithuanian men’s basketball team had a record of 20 wins and 8 losses in official international competitions. Prior to this, Maksvytis led the Lithuanian youth national team to win the European Championship three times and the world championship once, nurturing talents such as Jonas Valančiūnas.
