MacIntyre Seals First PGA Tour Victory
With his father, Doug MacIntyre, caddying, Robert MacIntyre clinched victory at the RBC Canadian Open, marking his first PGA Tour triumph. In the final round at Hamilton Golf Country Club, MacIntyre started with a four-shot lead, posting a 5-under 68 with five birdies and three bogeys, securing the win by one stroke over fellow competitor Ben Griffin. On the 18th hole, the 27-year-old left-handed Scot made a two-putt save from 12 feet to maintain his one-stroke lead and avoid a playoff. He triumphed with a 264 (-16) score, a historic victory.
This marked MacIntyre’s 45th appearance on the PGA Tour. A graduate of McNeese State University, he is a member of the victorious 2023 Ryder Cup European team and has two DP World Tour victories under his belt: the Cyprus Invitational in 2020 and the Italian Open in 2022.
Pan Cheng-long Eagles, Fan Steps In as Caddie
Taiwanese player Pan Cheng-long experienced a memorable day, as his caddie Mike Cowan (Fluff) fell and injured himself on the third hole. Fellow major champion and playing partner Shane Lowry had to carry Cowan’s bag, while Lowry’s caddie Darren Reynolds took on Pan’s load.
After assisting Cowan to medical attention, fan Paul Emerson offered to carry Pan’s bag for two holes after he left. Emerson, who had previously served as a caddie in an LPGA event, stepped in during a Pro-Am match.
Michael Campbell from the caddie crew replaced Emerson on the 10th tee, only to be swapped for Paul Barren’s caddie Al Riddle later in the round.
Notably, Pan made a remarkable eagle from 121 yards out on the 12th hole, recognized as the best shot of the round. He finished with 3 birdies, 1 eagle, and 4 bogeys, ending the day at -1, with a -3 total, placing him at T35.
Yu Jun-an, another Taiwanese player, was positioned at T42 for the week.
The PGA Tour will soon host the iconic Memorial Tournament, presented by Workday.
