On May 13th, England manager Gareth Southgate stated in a media interview that his current focus is on coaching the England team, and speculation about potentially managing Manchester United in the future is not something he considers.
When asked if he would consider taking over Manchester United after his contract expires, Southgate said, “I have one job to concentrate on. That’s to try and lead the England team as successfully as I can in the matches we’ve got coming up. Anything else doesn’t really concern me. If I start talking about my future, that means I’m distracted from what I’m doing. So, I think it’s right that the country expects my focus to be on England. We’ve got three group games in the Euros coming up, and I’m looking forward to leading the team on this journey. We know what that feels like, and I know you’re all eager for more progress, and this is a great opportunity for us.”
Southgate will lead England into the 2024 UEFA European Championship in Germany, which could be his fourth and final tournament with the national team. His contract with the Football Association is set to expire in December, and reports suggest he might be a candidate for Manchester United should they part ways with Erik ten Hag.
