The Austrian national team is in the midst of preparations for their decisive UEFA Euro group stage match against the Netherlands on Tuesday, June 25th. Following intense matches against France (0-1 loss) and Poland (3-1 win), the squad engaged in recovery training by the shores of Schlachtensee Lake in Berlin on Sunday morning to recharge for the upcoming crucial clash.
Head coach Ralph Rangnick led the players through light physical exercises and stretching by the lake, with some taking a refreshing dip in the water. “In the morning, we analyzed the match videos at the hotel, then moved to the lake for flexibility work and light activities. Some team members also enjoyed the coolness of the lake,” revealed player Alexander Prass.
Facing the Dutch at the Berlin Olympic Stadium, Austria is determined to give their all. “We must give 100% for the full 90 minutes,” emphasized Ramano Schmid. “We want to win every game, even against a strong opponent like the Netherlands. We need to show greater determination.”
The Netherlands currently top Group D with one win and one draw, while Austria trails them by just one point in third place. Prass, who provided an assist against Poland, knows the key to facing the Dutch: “Controlling the tempo is crucial. We need to press effectively and convert regained possession into scoring opportunities. Their possession game can play into our hands, allowing us to exploit our strengths in counterattacks.”
Schmid reinforced the team’s mindset: “We are aware of the Netherlands’ strengths, but we will enter the pitch with confidence, aiming for victory.”
Historically, in their 20 encounters with the currently FIFA world-ranked seventh Netherlands, Austria has won six, drawn four, and lost ten. The most recent meeting was at UEFA Euro 2020, where Austria fell to the Netherlands 0-2.
