June 24 – Argentine forward Lionel Messi recently spoke to local media outlet TyC Sports about the possibility of meeting NBA legend Michael Jordan. Messi expressed his desire to come face-to-face with the basketball icon.
The 2024 Copa América is set to take place in the United States, and as defending champions, Argentina will travel to New Jersey to face arch-rivals Chile in their second group match. This could provide a historic opportunity for the two sports giants to meet, with Messi saying, “I watched ‘The Last Dance’ series and got to know more… Michael Jordan is impressive. It made me realize who he is, and it’s a shame I couldn’t live in that era. I would be very happy, even though I don’t know much about basketball and am not a big fan, but all sports are different, not just basketball.”
The legendary basketball player won six NBA championship rings with the Chicago Bulls and claimed two Olympic gold medals (1984 Los Angeles and 1992 Barcelona).
Regarding the potential encounter, Messi commented, “They’ve asked me for so many photos… why wouldn’t I take one with him? It would be a fantastic thing to happen.”
