In a recent media interview, Ajax forward Mikautadze stated that he will play in the French top flight next season and will not return to Ajax.
Mikautadze said, “I can confirm that I will be playing in Ligue 1 next season. I will stay in France. The exact club is not determined yet, but it will be announced soon.”
The 23-year-old joined Ajax last summer from Metz for 16 million. However, he made only nine appearances across all competitions without scoring in the first half of the season. In the winter transfer window, he returned to Metz on loan and promptly regained his form, contributing 14 goals and four assists in 22 appearances.
According to the terms of his contract, Metz had an option to buy him back for 13 million. However, with the team failing to avoid relegation, it is expected that Mikautadze won’t remain at Metz and will instead join another Ligue 1 club.
Additionally, Mikautadze has been called up to the Georgian national team and will participate in this summer’s European Championship.
